Network Cabling and Installation

Anyone who understands business knows the importance of networking. Meeting new people and making connections fuels a company’s success. However, the company must also have a strong internal network that allows employees within the organization to communicate with each other. An office building can contain several dozen miles of phone and data lines, which form the network’s infrastructure. Unfortunately, keeping all of that network cabling maintained can be a daunting task.

Understanding Network Infrastructure

An office building with 500 personal computers needs all of the devices to connect at one centralized location. Most office buildings connect their computers to the web via Ethernet cable instead of Wi-Fi. Ethernet cable is the same type of cable that plugs into a phone jack, and it’s much better than Wi-Fi. This is especially true if there are dozens of devices to connect. For this reason, all computers on a floor are usually connected in a single server. The same is true for all of the land line phones within the building, and there are many benefits to establishing the network this way. When someone calls a customer service center, every phone in the building is connected to a single network. Therefore, any of the hundreds of phones can answer an incoming call. It also makes it much easier to transfer callers to the proper departments. These phones and computers are connected to a single server via network cabling.

What is a Server

A server is a type of electronic device that simply serves information to devices that request it. Putting in “Some-company”.com into a URL bar is essentially asking the Internet for that particular website. The process is difficult to explain, but the browser essentially searches for the resource until it finds it upon a particular server. This is why every website needs to be stored upon a reliable network to prevent potential customers from doing business with a competitor. While no server can be up and running 100% of the time, there are server management steps which can be taken to ensure the site is almost always available. There are also internal servers that can connect all of the network cabling within a building or on a particular floor of a building.

Viable IT Solutions for Modern Business

While having a reliable Information and Technology (IT) specialist is important, it’s also important to remain profitable. It doesn’t matter how good the service is if it takes so much of your profits that you have to file for bankruptcy. Fortunately, servers have a wide range of prices to keep all of the employees in an office building connected. However, there are some downsides to building such a massive infrastructure.

Potential Network Issues

The devices within a single network are similar to a Christmas lights. When one has an issue, it can cause problems for them all. For instance, one employee opening an email with a virus can cause the cause the entire network to become infected. However, the benefits of network cabling far outweigh any concerns you may have. Without these important wires, even wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) wouldn’t exist. Wi-Fi is provided by a router which still connects to a phone jack via Ethernet cable. Sometimes, coaxial is used instead but all Wi-Fi signals are ultimately provided via a cable.
