Business Challenge

Located on the southeast corner of the historic 16-acre World Trade Center site in downtown Manhattan, the new 4 World Trade Center (4WTC) building was designed by the esteemed Pritzker-Prize winning architect Fumihiko Maki. The 978 foot tall building offers unparalleled office and retail space to one of the busiest and most remarkable districts in New York City. With tenants like the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the New York Board of Trade and Deutsche Bank, having a quality cellular infrastructure capable of consistently delivering adequate wireless broadband coverage is paramount. Verizon Wireless recognizes the superior quality and craftsmanship of Telecom Infrastructure’s previous installation endeavours and therefore contracted Telecom Infrastructure to provide the project management and the physical installation expertise required to complete this expansive installation project. Together, Verizon Wireless and Telecom Infrastructure have supplied 4 World Trade Center with the fastest and most reliable 4G LTE network in the world.

Solution

The most optimal way to achieve flawless indoor cellular network coverage for such a large structure is by utilizing what’s called a Distributed Antenna System (DAS). There are many manufacturers currently providing DAS technologies but TEKO is consistently demonstrating its position on the cutting edge. Naturally, Verizon Wireless has implemented a Teko DAS platform into 4 WTC’s infrastructure. DAS technology employs an array of antennas, strategically placed around confined (and oftentimes open) spaces. The Teko DAS Platform has more to offer than just a sleek design and an affordable price tag, the remote administration and spectral assessment features of the Teko DAS platform ensures quick and easy commissioning and accurate remote monitoring of the system.

Results

In its entirety, the system designed for 4 WTC contains 30 optimally placed Teko RUs fed by ten thousand feet of fiber optic cable, and around 12 miles of half inch coaxial cable feeding over 720 strategically placed antennas on all 73 floors of the building. Having already completed dozens of DAS projects in the New York metropolitan area and around the country, Telecom Infrastructure is no stranger to challenging cabling endeavours and has ultimately completed the entire 4 WTC DAS Project in a record-breaking five month period, further solidifying their position as one of the most revered telecommunications installation companies in the country.
